Review: Wicked (The Wicked Trilogy #1)

by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Romance
Spice Level: 🔥🔥🔥

Book Cover of Wicked by Jennifer Armentrout - Growls and Grimm

There’s something irresistible about a secret society in New Orleans. The cobblestone streets, the heavy air, the sense that something ancient is watching you from the shadows, chef’s kiss. Throw in deadly fae, one mysterious “Ancient” who shouldn’t exist, and a slow-burn romance with teeth? I’m already clutching my reading glasses write this Wicked review.

Ivy Morgan is a fierce, no-nonsense Order member, and absolutely not in the mood to deal with mythological creatures who aren’t supposed to be in her zip code. After surviving an attack no one believes happened, she’s left wounded and questioning the safety of everything she’s sworn to protect.

Enter Ren Owens, a new Order member with charm, sarcasm, and zero interest in boundaries. His assignment? Train with Ivy. His side quest? Steal her heart. (Spoiler: he’s annoyingly good at both.)

But here’s the twist I adored, the fae are not the good guys. Armentrout flips the usual trope on its head and keeps the danger very real. No redemption arcs, just chaos in tailored suits. Ivy and Ren are fighting evil in a world that doesn’t even know it’s under threat—and the tension is delicious.

Between sword fights, steamy moments, and some truly wicked surprises, this book balances action and romance like a dagger in a silk glove. Ivy’s emotional growth, Ren’s persistence, and the vivid New Orleans setting make this one an easy recommendation.
